Cairo, March 19th 2015; Shell  announced that it has been chosen by BMW Group as its only recommended supplier for aftermarket engine oils for its brands in Egypt and globally, comprising: BMW, BMW i, Mini and BMW Motorrad.
From the start of 2015, premium engine oils produced by Shell will be available to customers at BMW Group’s network of more than 3,500 dealers, in more than 140 countries, including Brazil, China, Germany, Russia, South Africa, South Korea, Turkey, the UK and the USA.

The partnership means that Shell will principally make BMW’s branded engine oils as well as supply its own Shell brands at BMW dealerships. These products will meet the latest BMW engine specifications and will be underpinned by Shell’s PurePlus Technology. Shell PurePlus Technology is a breakthrough in how engine oils are formulated. It is a patented gas-to-liquid (GTL) process, developed over 40 years of research, which converts natural gas into crystal-clear base oil: the main component of finished oils. Base oil, usually made from crude oil, plays a vital role in the quality of the finished engine oil.

The base oil is produced at the Pearl GTL plant, one of the world’s largest source of GTL products and the only commercial source of GTL base oil today. From 2015, BMW service customers all over the world can benefit from the integration of the gas value chain as all BMW aftermarket engine oils will be based on Shell PurePlus Technology. In some markets such as China, Shell will also make products that will be co-branded with the Shell and BMW names, further strengthening the link between these performance brands.

Mark Gainsborough, Executive Vice President for Shell Lubricants, said: “We are honoured to become the BMW group’s recommended supplier of engine oil products and look forward to jointly supplying, distributing and marketing these oils, as of start 2015. This deal demonstrates that the benefits of Shell’s engine oil expertise and cutting-edge technology have been recognised by one of the world’s leading premium car makers. This includes an acknowledgment of the value of our most recent innovation in Shell PurePlus Technology for premium engine oils. ”

“This deal brings together two of the leading brands in motoring in a global partnership resulting in the best of performance and technology being offered to customers. Both companies have a very strong commitment to premium products and services, giving us much in common. The partnership will benefit from both companies’ sales and marketing capabilities and from Shell’s global supply chain network” Added Mark.

Mr. Saher Hashem, Managing Director for Shell Lubricants Egypt said “We are pleased that our renew our deal with Bavarian Auto Group which lasted over the past years at the local level has been  crowned now  by the  signing of the global partnership contract between Shell and BMW “.
