CAIRO, Egypt (September 26, 2018) – Nissan’s futuristic BladeGlider concept makes its Egyptian debut today at the Automech Formula – one of the largest automotive events in the region.
BladeGlider symbolizes Nissan’s approach to technology by combining zero emissions with advanced Nissan Intelligent Mobility features in a revolutionary sports car design that is great fun to drive. The BladeGlider concept is both a proposal for the future direction of Nissan Electric Vehicle (EV) development and an exploratory prototype of an upcoming production vehicle from the world’s leading EV manufacturer.
“I am excited to be here today at my first Cairo Motor Show,” said Kohei Maeda, Chairman and the Managing Director of Nissan Motor Egypt. “Egypt is a very important market for us and we have plans to grow and strengthen our presence as a popular Japanese auto-brand in the country. We’re also excited to bring our technologies here to Egypt and showcase innovation that excites the consumer. With Nissan Intelligent Mobility, we are making this vision a reality, today.”
Nissan Intelligent Mobility is a framework to guide Nissan’s product development around how vehicles are driven, powered and are integrated into society.
In addition to this, Nissan displayed its fully accessorized Qashqai crossover featuring some of Nissan’s Intelligent Mobility technology, including “Around View Monitor” to watch their surroundings and active safety systems that step in, when needed, to keep the drivers and passengers safe.
Nissan also showcased its upgraded sports model line-up of its best-selling and locally assembled cars, Sunny and Sentra.
BladeGlider
Following the first unveil of the BladeGlider at the Tokyo Motor Show in 2013, Nissan BladeGlider, an advanced electric sports concept car, finally makes its dynamic debut in Egypt. The BladeGlider concept symbolizes the potential that Nissan has identified in future powertrain technologies to deliver high performance, agile sports-car dynamics, with eco-friendly credentials. The BladeGlider prototypes form part of Nissan’s ongoing commitment to the development of zero-emission vehicles and new automotive technologies including autonomous drive systems and connectivity.
BladeGlider epitomises Intelligent Mobility, a philosophy to make its cars more exciting by redefining how they are driven, powered and integrated into society.
The demonstration models feature an advanced chassis configuration with a narrow front track and wider rear track for optimum aerodynamic efficiency and handling stability.
High-waisted, rear-hinged dihedral doors provide a dramatic entry and exit to the cabin. The open roof of BladeGlider is reinforced with an integrated roll-over protection structure, providing the exhilaration of an open-topped race car with the safety of a coupé.
The interior of the BladeGlider reflects the vehicles’ sporting intentions, with 4 point safety harnesses for each occupant. The seats offer exceptional support to sides and legs of the driver and passengers. The seats are trimmed in a highly tactile blend of fabric and epoxy resin coating, resulting in a tough and grippy material that has the effect of comfortably adhering occupants securely in place.
BladeGlider not only embodies Nissan’s approach to expanding its Intelligent Mobility strategy – by combining driving enjoyment with environmental responsibility – but also demonstrates Nissan’s leadership in EV technology and sustainable mobility, which it aims to bring to the Egyptian market.
Qashqai
The new accessorized Qashqai crossover, one of the top-selling SUVs in Egypt, features examples of Nissan’s Intelligent Mobility, which transforms the car into a more responsive and complete partner by introducing a range of practical and advanced technologies. As one of the best-selling SUVs in Egypt and Europe, Qashqai considered the best car in the medium-sized multi-tasking family car category.
The Qashqai is an example of Intelligent Mobility in action. It includes luxurious features usually found in premium marques such as panoramic sun roof, immaculate 19 inch alloy wheels, Around View Monitor, front and rear sonar and adaptive front light system. It reaches new levels of refinement with improved overall interior quietness and reduced engine, wind and road noise.
It also features an Intelligent Start and Stop system and delivers superior performance thanks to its 1.2 lit turbo engine that works with 92 OCTAN, making the vehicle one of the most efficient and economic cars in its category.
Patrol
The Nissan Patrol, the king of the off-road, is known for being the ideal ’go anywhere’ vehicle that can take people from the busy city streets to desert road trips. No matter the driving conditions, the Patrol provides incredible grip by transferring power between the wheels and axles. It is reliable, comfortable and has enough cargo and storage space to accommodate eight passengers.
The Patrol also includes Nissan Intelligent Mobility features, which make driving easier and safer for those onboard. The Nissan Intelligent Driver Alertness detects driving behavior consistent with a drowsy driver and sends an audible warning, while its Safety Shield Technologies like Lane Departure Warning, sounds an alert when the car starts to drift out of its lane.
Sunny
Nissan’s flagship car in Egypt, the locally-assembled Sunny is dominating the sale of family sedans in the country with almost 50.000 units sold so far since the launch of Sunny MC in 2015.
The Sunny is the best-selling family car in Egypt with its spacious, comfortable interior and competitive pricing. The Sunny sedan is powered by a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder engine. It is also equipped with a number of advanced technologies such as Smart Key with Push Button Start, Multi-function steering wheel, and new safety features including ABS, EBD and Brake Assist.
Sentra
The Sentra has the most spacious and most luxurious interior in its range. The car features rear air conditioning and dual zone AC, 7” navigation screen, rear view camera and Bluetooth. The accessorized version comes with the new addition of front and rear bumpers, air spoiler, mudguard, front grille and GPS Radio.
Nissan comes to this year’s show as one of the most popular brands in Egypt with 16% market share. “The future is bright for us in Egypt, and we look forward to strengthening our presence in the market,” said Maeda.
