KFC Parent Company Foundation Partners with Egypt Food Bank to Feed Up to 5,000 Families in Need

Donation of $50,000 presented by KFC’s parent corporation foundation, Yum! Brands Foundation, to provide families with relief from hunger during COVID-19 crisis

Cairo, Egypt: 4 June 2020 – Yum! Brands Foundation, created by KFC’s parent corporation Yum! Brands presented a critical donation of $50,000 to the Egyptian Food Bank, a non-profit organisation that is committed to battling the country’s hunger issues. The donation helped the Food Bank provide relief to all those experiencing food insecurity during the country’s partial lockdown period amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. The contribution enabled meal packs to be purchased for and delivered to nearly 20,000 individuals from approximately 5,000 families.

The donation was presented by Yum! Brands Foundation, established by KFC’s parent corporation Yum! Brands, in line with its commitment to support programs designed to eradicate hunger and in response to Egypt’s economic downturn. The resulting unemployment surge has particularly affected a large number of day laborers who are struggling to put food on the table at this unprecedented time. The donation will ensure that they do not resort to harmful coping strategies that might potentially expose them to any risk of infection.

Ozge Zoralioglu, Chief Marketing Officer, KFC, Yum! Brands commented: “Extraordinary times call for extraordinary feats of solidarity.  Now more than ever, it has become crucial that we must, together, serve our local communities and focus our collective energies to support those who need our assistance the most. In this time of uncertainty, the Yum! Brands Foundation remains committed to ensuring that this pandemic does not deepen the existing burdens that are borne by low-income families.

Today, we have strengthened our commitment to give our local communities this much needed assistance, working with the Egyptian Food Bank to provide hunger relief to nearly 20,000 individuals from nearly 5,000 families who are grappling with the harsh realities of the COVID-19 pandemic. We realise these are unprecedented times, but we must not forget that we can only conquer this battle together, looking after each other and supporting each other.”

Mohsen Sarhan, Egyptian Food Bank CEO, added: “The Egyptian Food Bank was founded on the belief that everyone has the right to have their adequate food needs met. This serves as the foundation for all our programs and initiatives, aligned with government efforts to confront the challenges of food security that our country’s people are currently faced with – particularly their ability to access food amidst the global health pandemic. We have been working tirelessly with our valued network of more than 5,000 NGOs throughout Egypt to distribute non-perishable food parcels across all 27 governorates, thanks to scores of donations we have received from our partners. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Yum! Brands Foundation, and all our partners who have come to the aid in alleviating hunger for thousands across the nation.”

Egyptian Food Bank’s donation campaigns are expected to reach 1.5 million affected individuals, families, and communities.
